Tony Allen playing well

Blogged under Front Page,Steppin Up by Nothing but Net on Friday 29 December 2006 at 10:38 pm

When Wally Szczerbiak went down to injury the Celtics needed one of their younger players to step up and that’s exactly what Tony Allen has done for them. Allen has averaged only 20.9 minutes per game, but he has played well in the limited minutes he has had on the court. Allen is averaging 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steal per game so far this season. Tony also is hitting 48.8% of his shots from the floor which is excellent for a shooting guard. He should continue to get extended playing time after Szczerbiak returns because he has earned the floor time.

The Celtics fell to 10-17 on the season with this loss.

Paul Pierce to miss next two weeks

Blogged under Front Page,Injuries by Nothing but Net on Saturday 23 December 2006 at 2:00 pm

Paul Pierce will miss the next two weeks of the season with a stress reaction in his foot. Pierce is the one player that the Celtics could not afford to lose. Pierce is averaging 26.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game so far this season. Pierce also is the best three-point shooter on the team as he’s hit 40.9% of his attempts so far this season.

The Celtics can only hope to tread water until Pierce returns. Young Gerald Green will probably get alot of Pierce’s minutes, but he’s impossible to replace.

Celtics have rough time in 98-83 loss to Sixers

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 23 December 2006 at 11:08 am

The Celtics didn’t play any defense last night as the Sixers shot 53.9% from the floor. The win for the Sixers snapped a 12 game losing streak for them. The Celtics were playing without Paul Pierce and that hurt the offense, big-time. Gerald Green (20 points, 9 rebounds) and Al Jefferson (20 points, 14 rebounds) were both outstanding last night but they didn’t have much help. Delonte West (14 points) and Tony Allen (12 points) each pitched in on the win.

The Celtics fell to 10-15 on the season with this loss.

Ryan Gomes and Al Jefferson steppin up

Blogged under Front Page,Steppin Up by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 13 December 2006 at 5:11 pm

Ryan Gomes has played well at power forward so far for the Celtics. Gomes has averaged 11.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists per game so far this season and has hit 50.9% of his shots from the floor. Al Jefferson has stepped up his play since Kendrick Perkins has been out. He is now the starting center and is averaging 10.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game so far this season. Jefferson has hit 50.5% of his shots from the floor.

These two guys will be a huge part of the foundation of this team’s future unless they are traded for Allen Iverson.
