Al Jefferson a bright light in a dim season

You can’t blame PF/C Al Jefferson for the Celtics stinking it up this season as he’s been playing out of his mind. The Celtics nurtured him along his first two seasons in the league but this year they had absolutely nothing to lose by letting him get a lot of minutes and he’s rewarding them for doing that. Jefferson is averaging 14.0 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.4 blocks per game this season. Those are pretty good numbers that for a young player that teams are game planning to stop now. He’s shooting 48.3% from the floor, which is pretty good, even though most of those shots are coming from close range. The one area he needs to improve on is his free throw shooting as he only makes 67.5% of those.Â

The Celtics fall again 91-79 to the Heat in Boston

The Celtics had a poor game as they only shot 32% from the floor as a team which really gave them no chance to win this game! Ryan Gomes led the way for the Celtics with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Wally Szczerbiak scored 14 points off the bench. Al Jefferson didn’t shoot well (6 of 17) but he still wound up with 13 points, 16 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Celtics lost their 16th straight game and have no fallen to 12-36 on the season. http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=270207002

The Celtics should give the rookies more playing time

Blogged under Rookie Report, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 3 February 2007 at 6:07 pm

The Celtics have lost 14 games in a row so they should start giving their rookies more playing time to see what they’ve got. Rajon Rondo got the start last night and he played well. Actually he’s been pretty good this season in his limited minutes on the floor. Rondo has played in 42 games and has averaged 17.7 minutes, 5.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game.Â

Young guard Allen Ray has proven that he can put the ball in the hoop when he gets to play. He’s only played in 22 games this season and is averaging 11.4 minutes, 5.3 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists.

Power Forward Leon Powe has also played decent in his limited minutes on the floor. He’s played in 31 games and is averaging 8.7 minutes, 2.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game.

The Celtics lose for the 14th time in a row 100-89 to the Clippers in Boston

Blogged under Game Recaps, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 3 February 2007 at 10:52 am

This is starting to sound like a broken record!  The Clippers just wanted this win more than the Celtics did as they outscored them 33-20 in the 4th quarter. Can’t blame Doc Rivers for changing up the starting line up, but the result was the same. Rookie Rajon Rondo got the start at shooting guard and he had a great game with 23 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Al Jefferson also had a good game with 21 points and 6 rebounds.

The Celtics fell to 12-34 on the season with this loss. http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=270202002
