The rookies of the Boston Celtics earn a C+

Blogged under Bloglockers, Rookie Report, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 20 April 2007 at 8:05 am

The Celtics rookies might have got a higher grade from me if they played a little more during the season. They showed at the end of the season that they all have game, but when the Celtics get healthy most of them will wind up bench players. Guard Rajon Rondo played in 78 games this season and he averaged 23.5 minutes per game, 6.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Rondo is a shutdown defender but he’ll need to improve on offense if he wants to eventually be a starter for the Celtics. Guard Allen Ray played in 47 games and he averaged 15.1 minutes, 6.2 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Ray shot 41.4% from three-point range and he proved that he will be a valuable reserve for the Celtics in the future. Forward Leon Powe played in 63 games and he averaged 11.4 minutes, 4.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. Powe also showed that he will be a decent reserve for the Celtics. Forward Kevinn Pinkney didn’t show up until the end of the season and he played in 6 games and averaged 16.7 minutes, 5.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He played pretty well for the Celtics at the end of the season so he will likely get a chance to battle for a roster spot on the Celtics for next season.

The 2006-2007 Boston Celtics by the numbers

Blogged under Bloglockers, Big Celtics News, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 19 April 2007 at 10:29 am

The Boston Celtics are glad this season is finally over. The Celtics were decimated by injuries this season but they did get to give their young players big playing time and some of them showed big-time promise for the future. The Celtics finished in last place in the Atlantic Division with a 24-58 record, 23 games behind the Toronto Raptors. The Celtics were equally pathetic at home 12-29 and on the road 12-29! The Celtics were and awful 16-36 against the Eastern Conference, but they were a solid 7-9 against the Division. The Celtics wound up averaging 95.8 points per game and they allowed 99.2. They limped towards the finish line winning only 2 of their last 10 games which guaranteed them the second most lottery balls in the Greg Oden, Kevin Durant Sweepstakes.

Paul Pierce shut down for the last couple of games by the Boston Celtics

Blogged under Bloglockers, Big Celtics News, Front Page, Injuries by alleyoop on Thursday 12 April 2007 at 10:46 am

The Celtics have decided to shut down Paul Pierce for the remainder of the season due to an elbow injury. The fact that Pierce only played in 47 games is the single biggest reason for the awful season that the Celtics endured this year. Pierce averaged 25.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game this season and those numbers were way to hard for the Celtics to replace. Hopefully they’ll get lucky at Draft Lottery time.

The Boston Celtics have a couple of young players who are stepping up

Blogged under Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 10 April 2007 at 11:20 am

The Celtics have had to throw their young players to the wolves and play them because of all the injuries the team has suffered. Rajon Rondo has started 6 games the last two weeks and he’s averaged 9.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.8 steals per game. Rondo is a bundle of energy at both ends of the floor, but he needs to improve his offensive game a little bit. Center Kendrick Perkins has also played pretty well the last two weeks. He’s played in 6 games and he has averaged 7.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 blocks per game. Like Rondo, Perkins is better at the defensive end of the basketball court.

The Boston Celtics lose forward Brian Scalabrine for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Big Celtics News, Front Page, Injuries by alleyoop on Tuesday 10 April 2007 at 11:12 am

Brian Scalabrine is done for the season due to a hamstring injury. The Celtics didn’t need another injury as they might have to sign a few players off the street to finish the season. He played in 54 games this season and he averaged 19.0 minutes, 4.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. The thing the Celtics will miss most about Scalabrine is that he’s a good outside shooter.
