It’s the Allen & Allen show at shooting guard for the Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are set up well at shooting guard for this season. 34-year old Ray Allen is back this season to start for the Celtics. He played in 79 games for the Celtics last season and he averaged 36.4 minutes, 18.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Allen has turned into a great team player for the Celtics after being the #1 option on offense for many years with the Sonics. He also still has that nice stroke from long range as he hit 40.9% from three point range last year. 27-year old Tony Allen will back up Ray Allen again this season. Allen played in 46 games for the Celtics last season and he averaged 19.3 minutes, 7.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Tony Allen brings energy to the basketball court which the Celtics feed off of. 28-year old Marquis Daniels can also handle playing at shooting guard but he will get most of his minutes backing up Paul Pierce at small forward this year.

The Boston Celtics are set up well at point guard

There were whispers over the off-season that the Celtics were trying to move 23-year old point guard Rajon Rondo but they came to their senses and kept him. Rondo is the guy that makes the Celtics go on both ends of the basketball court as he is a elite defender. He played in 80 games for the Celtics last season and he averaged 33.0 minutes, 11.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 8.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game. If he weren’t such a team player he could easily average over 15 points a game. 31-year old Eddie House will back up Rondo but he’s not a perfect fit a point guard as he loves to shoot the rock. House played in 81 games for the Celtics last season and he averaged 8.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. This might sound funny but the one player the Celtics could not replace is Rajon Rondo.

The off-season has treated the Boston Celtics well

The Celtics have been real aggressive this off-season as they continue to entice players to come to Boston for less money. PF Rasheed Wallace and G/F Marquis Daniels could have got more money elsewhere but they gave it up to play for a championship. The Celtics also brought back Glen “Big Baby” Davis despite other teams having some interest in him. Shelden Williams was signed for depth and Lester Hudson was added in the NBA Draft. The only players the Celtics have lost from last year’s team so far are Leon Powe (signed with Cavs) and Gabe Pruitt who they released.
