Rasheed Wallace retires from the Boston Celtics

Blogged under Big Celtics News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Tuesday 29 June 2010 at 10:29 pm

35-year old PF/C Rasheed Wallace has decided to call it a career. Wallace played in 79 games (13 starts) for the Celtics last season and he averaged 22.5 minutes, 9.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.0 steal per game. Even though Wallace was on the downside of his career he did give the Celtics toughness and rebounding off the bench. They will need to find another veteran to replace him off the bench in 2010-11.

The Boston Celtics waive forward Marcus Landry

Blogged under Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Saturday 10 April 2010 at 9:19 am

The Celtics have waived forward Marcus Landry. Landry came over in the Knicks’ trade for Nate Robinson. He only played in 1 game for the Celtics playing 3 minutes and not getting any other stats. The Celtics won’t miss him the rest of the way.

The Boston Celtics sign Michael Finley

Blogged under Big Celtics News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Thursday 4 March 2010 at 7:20 pm

The Celtics have signed 36-year old SG/SF Michael Finley. Finley played in 25 games (6 starts) for the Spurs this season and he averaged 15.8 minutes, 3.7 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He has now played in 1,082 games (874 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 34.8 minutes, 15.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. I can’t figure out where the minutes for Finley are going to come from but I still like the signing for the Celtics as you can never have too many good players.

The Boston Celtics acquire Nate Robinson from the Knicks

Blogged under Big Celtics News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Thursday 18 February 2010 at 6:10 pm

The Boston Celtics have acquired 25-year old SG/PG Nate Robinson and 24-year old forward Marcus Landry from the Knicks for 31-year old SG Eddie House, 25-year old SG J.R. Giddens and 22-year old SG/SF Bill Walker. Robinson has played in 30 games (2 starts) for the Knicks this season and he is averaging 24.4 minutes, 13.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. He has now played in 312 games (61 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 24.8 minutes, 12.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Marcus Landry is in his rookie year in the NBA and he has played in 17 games (0 starts) for the Knicks this season and he is averaging 6.4 minutes, 2.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

Eddie House played in 50 games (0 starts) for the Celtics this season and he averaged 16.9 minutes, 7.2 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. House played in 209 games (2 starts) in his three years with the Celtics and he has averaged 18.2 minutes, 7.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Giddens played in 21 games (1 start) for the Celtics this season and he was averaging 4.7 minutes, 1.1 points, 1.0 rebound and 0.3 assists per game. Walker played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Celtics this season and he was averaging 3.6 minutes, 1.0 point, 0.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.

I like this trade for the Celtics who have improved the bench with the addition of the very exciting Nate Robinson.

The Boston Celtics have waived rookie guard Lester Hudson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General,Rookie Report by alleyoop on Wednesday 6 January 2010 at 8:51 pm

The Celtics have waived rookie shooting guard Lester Hudson. Hudson played in 16 games (0 starts) for the Celtics this season and he averaged 4.4 minutes, 1.4 points, 0.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists. The Celtics didn’t have much playing time to offer Hudson so they likely did him a favor by letting him go.

The Boston Celtics bring Michael Sweetney to training camp

Blogged under Big Celtics News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Tuesday 13 October 2009 at 10:28 am

The Boston Celtics have brought 26-year old power forward Michael Sweetney into training camp giving him a chance to revive his NBA career. He last played during the 2006-07 season with the Chicago Bulls. Sweetney has played in 233 games in his NBA career in which he has averaged 15.5 minutes, 6.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. He will have a hard time making the Celtics who are loaded at power forward.

UPDATE: The Celtics have released Michael Sweetney. He just picked the wrong team to try out for when he could have possibly made a team like the Sacramento Kings or the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The off-season has treated the Boston Celtics well

Blogged under Big Celtics News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Wednesday 2 September 2009 at 4:21 pm

The Celtics have been real aggressive this off-season as they continue to entice players to come to Boston for less money. PF Rasheed Wallace and G/F Marquis Daniels could have got more money elsewhere but they gave it up to play for a championship. The Celtics also brought back Glen “Big Baby” Davis despite other teams having some interest in him. Shelden Williams was signed for depth and Lester Hudson was added in the NBA Draft. The only players the Celtics have lost from last year’s team so far are Leon Powe (signed with Cavs) and Gabe Pruitt who they released.

GRADE FOR FRONT OFFICE SO FAR: A

The Boston Celtics re-sign Glen Davis

Blogged under Big Celtics News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Tuesday 11 August 2009 at 9:47 pm

The Celtics have re-signed Glen “Big Baby” Davis to a 2-year, $6.3 million dollar contract. The 23-year old power forward played in 76 games (16 starts) for the Celtics last season and he averaged 21.5 minutes, 7.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. He has now played in 145 games (17 starts) in his two years with the Celtics and he has averaged 17.8 minutes, 5.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Davis really stepped up in the playoffs for the Celtics last season but he will likely be backing up Rasheed Wallace this season.

The Boston Celtics sign Shelden Williams

Blogged under Big Celtics News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Thursday 6 August 2009 at 5:22 pm

The Celtics have signed 25-year old power forward Shelden Williams to a 1-year deal. Williams has not reached his potential yet as he was a high first round pick 3 years ago of the Atlanta Hawks. Williams played in 45 games (0 starts) last season for the T-Wolves and Kings in which he averaged 11.4 minutes, 4.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. He has now played in 190 games (31 starts) in his three year NBA career and he has averaged 14.7 minutes, 4.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. The Celtics will be happy with Williams if he just gives them some rebounding and defense off the bench.

The Boston Celtics waive Gabe Pruitt

Blogged under Big Celtics News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Saturday 1 August 2009 at 8:54 am

The Celtics have waived 23-year old guard Gabe Pruitt. Pruitt played in 47 games (0 starts) for the Celtics last season and he averaged 7.8 minutes, 2.0 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. He played in 62 games (0 starts) in his two year NBA career and he averaged 7.4 minutes, 2.0 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Pruitt only shot 32.1% in his time with the Celtics and they won’t miss him at all.
